What does the Bible say?

Why is it that homosexuality is a sin?  It is very, very clear in the Bible that God does not tolerate homosexual practices.  The first indication of this is in the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah in Genesis chapter 19.  Two other verses that show that homosexual behavior is condemned by God is in Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13.  Chapter 18 verse 22 tells us that homosexual sex is an abomination to the Lord.  Something that is important to understand is that God does not discriminate between homosexual sex outside of marriage or in marriage; its still homosexual sex, which God strictly forbids.

The main passage in the New Testament that deals with homosexuality is Romans 1:24-27.  Here, the Bible describes homosexual desires as dishonorable passions and explicitly outlaws homosexual activity between two women or between two men.  Most important of all, the Bible soberly declares in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 that those who practice homosexuality, along with other types of sin such as immoral heterosexual behavior and robbery, will not inherit the kingdom of God.

However, in verse 11, we see that all of these sins, including homosexuality can be forgiven:  And such were some of you.  But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.  Jesus Christ can forgive your sins, whatever they are, if you repent and believe.  He can also change your desires and make you a new creation.
